We’re helping in the launch of the new book China Road by Rob Gifford, published by Random House. The website is at a very very early stage (more coming soon). Rob was NPR’s China Correspondent and the book is a description of a road trip around the less well known fringes, both geographically and culturally, of China. Photography for the book is by Patrick Fraser.

Rob Gifford’s book, obviously, is not the normal tourist travel guide. As its subtitle indicates, it has a different aim. However, to understand a country’s present as well as to forecast a possible future for it, it is necessary to get a more than cursory glance at the country’s cultural and historical past. A book, recently released, attempts to do just that – its title is “Warp and Weft: Chinese Language and Culture!.
